Bottom Line: The reputation for quality that Thermoworks seems to be well earned straight out of the box.
When I am not working on this blog, at work, watching movies, or cooking, I can often be found reading forums or other websites. Through the course of this web surfing, I have seen Thermoworks thermometers advertised or featured in the photos of pitmasters time and time again. Anyone who is serious about their cooking knows that cooking by internal temp is really the only way to do it. I have explored buying one on several occasions, but they are bit expensive and I doubted if I really needed that level of precision. Thermoworks was recently running an inventory reduction sale and I decided to take the leap.
Which model did you get?
I got the RT600C Super Fast Pocket Thermometer in yellow
Any features you should mention?
Well since you asked….
The thermometer has a range from -40-302F and will read accurate within 5-6 seconds
It has a one hour auto shutoff feature
It can be re-calibrated if necessary
It records the max and min temperatures (if you are letting your meat rest, stick this thermometer in it and you can come back within the hour to see the maximum internal temperature the meat hit.
How was Shipping/Packaging?
Shipping cost me a few bucks, but shipped very quickly via FedEx. The box was clearly label and the thermometer was well protected, there was even a tiny package of Jelly Belly’s in the box!
Thermometer Initial Impressions:
I have owned several “instant read” thermometers, but I have never put them to the test. I decided to test this one straight out of the box. I took one of my 10oz RTIC tumblers and filled it with ice and water and let it sit for a few minutes, I knew the ice water should be very close to 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Within a few seconds of putting the thermometer in the water, it read 32 degrees on the nose!
I also boiled some water, since I live at sea level, the water should boil at 212 degrees Fahrenheit. Sure enough the Super Fast Pocket Thermometer was within .5 degrees of 212 within a few seconds.
Conclusion:
The Thermoworks Super Fast Pocket Thermometer appears to live up to the hype! I look forward to using it on an actual cook. I will update this review when I get a little more experience with it under my belt.
