5 reasons I am looking forward to Fall!

With Labor Day upon us, many consider it the end of the Summer Season and the beginning of fall. I love summer, but I am trying to keep an optimistic approach and wanted to share the top reasons why I am looking forward to Fall.

1) Shorter Days – As much as I love long summer days, a late sunset means a significant delay until I can start my

movies just a little bit earlier. With the arrival of spring will come cooler nights, it never gets so cold you need a jacket here in Hawaii, but it is nice when you aren’t sweating.

2) Football – One of the funny things about living in Hawaii is that Football means early mornings, particularly if you are a fan of East Coast teams. Due to the 5-6 hour time difference, a noon game means a 6-7 AM wake up here in the islands. Football sucks up a lot of time, but it is the perfect entertainment for multitasking.  It is also a great excuse to get people together and another way to make use of your Backyard Theater.  Here is my post about broadcasting live events that might be useful.

3) Tailgating Food – I don’t think anything inspires the same level of creativity as tailgating.  The modern tailgate cook is a distant cousin of the chuck wagon cook of long ago, tasked with many the edible and maybe incredible, in adverse and austere conditions. I love browsing the forums and seeing all the backyard and parking lot wizardry inspired by this time of year.  We will have company throughout the fall and I plan on stretching my chops on the grill.

4) Off Season Travel – The kids are back in school and the holidays aren’t quite hear yet. This is the time when Hawaii gets returned to the residents, when you can visit many attractions without the lines, travel the roads without the traffic jams, and get a hotel room without booking 6 months in advance.  I already have trips to the Big Island and Maui planned.

5) Craft Beer – With Oktoberfest kicking off in September, you see the introduction of a lot of new seasonal beers for the Fall. Also, with the warm Hawaiian summers, I just don’t enjoy the dark beers the way I did in Colorado. As the temps drop a bit, you will find my glass holding amber beers a little more often.  I have trips to the Big Island and Maui planned, which means I have three new breweries to visit!

What are you looking forward to most about the change in seasons?
