But I need your attention for a few minutes because there is an opportunity coming your way. Now for most of you, your wallet is feeling a little empty and there is a good chance there is a blanket of snow on the ground outside. The last thing you are thinking about is hosting a garden party or showing a movie outside, but I need you to look forward six months into the future, when it is a little warmer and greener out your window.
Nothing helps to class up the joint like some nice lighting. I love the elegant images in magazines of simple farm to table dinners or cocktail parties under the glow of some bare Edison bulbs. What I have discovered though, is that for me, the price of those Edison bulbs is a bit out of reach.
A much cheaper option are Christmas Lights! Now I know what you are thinking, I am not going to be the Christmas lights out all year people, but hear me out. The “C9” sized bulb is actually quite large and doesn’t look exactly like a Christmas light and I think they look quite elegant. Christmas lights are also designed to be left out in the harshest of elements, so the odds of them standing up to the weather are much better than many of the decorative lights you will find.
For my own yard, I used LED lights. I like the electricity savings and the slightly cooler light isn’t as noticeable outside. However, the LED lights do not play well with my 3D glasses, I can see them flickering. So I turn off my lights when I am watching a 3D movie.
Christmas will be over in just a few hours and retailers all over this fine country will be slashing prices to clear out that holiday inventory. Now is the time to get these lights very, very, cheap. If you don’t like the way that they look, you will have minimal investment and will be able to afford to dump them. Or if you like them, buy multiple sets so that you replace them if severe weather or exposure causes them to fail.
So as you head out to the stores to make returns or exchanges, be sure to swing by the holiday aisle. If you can’t make it to the store, be sure to check online at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. The prices won’t be as cheap, but will still represent a steep discount.
Again, Happy Holidays and happy hunting everybody!
