My home is pretty backyard movie friendly. I have a private backyard ringed by trees that block prying eyes, I have a nice sitting area, and I have an electrical post in the middle of the yard that allows me to minimize the number of surge protectors and extension cords I need running through the yard.
What I don’t have is a place to permanently mount my projector, even if I did, I don’t know that I would use it, because I like to have the flexibility to adjust my setup for crowd size. Trying to find an inexpensive solution led me to develop my own trip adapter.
But lo, I had overlooked a very affordable option on the market that I didn’t discover until a friend’s backyard movie party. That little secret is the [easyazon_link identifier=”B003GEJ5PI” locale=”US” tag=”backyardmov05-20″]Pyle PLPTS2[/easyazon_link] a very reasonably priced platform for your projector and or laptop.
The [easyazon_link identifier=”B003GEJ5PI” locale=”US” tag=”backyardmov05-20″]Pyle PLPTS2[/easyazon_link] is very lightweight but stable, easy to setup, and has a small footprint for storage. The build quality on it was very nice, I don’t think it would have any issues holding your standard home projector.
If the platform had a down side, it would be a lack of adjustability. Unlike a nice tripod, you need to set it up on a surface that is pretty level, there is no adjustment at the legs. The platform can be adjusted, but not enough to offset an unstable surface. That being said, if you are showing movies in your backyard, you probably don’t need to make all those adjustments and this will work just fine. I never know where I will take my setup, so this aspect gave me pause.
PROS:
Affordable
Lightweight
Stable
Easy to Store
Nice build quality
CONS:
Lack of an adjustable base for uneven surfaces
BOTTOM LINE:
The Pyle projector platform offers a lot in a quality package, but won’t be good for those taking their movie beyond the backyard.
