I recently participated in a BBQ sauce exchange and Christmas came early to Hawaii, because I got matched with the team at Slayton’s BBQ. I was pretty excited to rip their box open and waited until a special occasion to crack the first bottle open. I used their sweet sauce to make some Chicken Wings for the Super Bowl.
Consistency: The sauce had a homemade consistency, it was thick enough to stay on the meat alright, but it wasn’t as thick at many of the bigger commercial brands. I think this is a good thing since it probably means less High Fructose Corn Syrup in the sauce (though the is HFCS in the sauce).
Flavor: The flavor was really good! It was a little on the sweet side, but that was nicely balanced with the tartness, which I think comes from a heavy apple cider vinegar presence. I am a huge apple cider vinegar fan, so this was a win for me. I think this sauce would be amazing with a pulled pork sandwich!
Where to buy: You can buy Slayton’s Sweet and Spicy directly from their website. At $6.95 a bottle it is reasonably priced and I would definitely buy some more.
Conclusion: 4.5/5
