This beer is part of Blue Moon’s Winter Seasonal release. I am often intrigued by the interesting flavor combinations on the
labels, but find myself pretty grossed out by the end result. While I love pumpkin pie and the idea of it in beer form, I generally dislike pumpkin ale. I am a huge fan of horchata and I was expecting to be disgusted by its beer form, but I was intrigued, so I decided to go for it. Much to my surprise, this beer is actually pretty drinkable!
This beer is light on the malt flavor, you can definitely taste the Belgian candy sugar coming through though. It has a creamy finish and mouthfeel, but the cinnamon really stands out and lingers on the palate. This is where the brewmaster did a good job capturing the essence of horchata. While I enjoyed the bottle I had, this beer is definitely not sessionable, I don’t think I could drink more than one and still enjoy it.
Recommendation: Worth a try, but I think I would get it in the sampler like I did, I don’t know that I would commit to an entire six pack unless I had friends to help me finish it.
